PROGRAM.
Brief historical review, analyzing design and construction of the most popular models. Why and what to calibrate. Review and diagnosis of each instrument. Condition of the neck and the frets. Disassembly of the instrument, understanding of the different handle and body assembly systems. Truss rod operation and handle adjustment. Concept of scale length, fret placement and bridge. Set-up and bridge cleaning, analysis of the different models. Rectification, contouring and polishing frets. String oscillations. Height compensation. Final set-up. Maintenance recommendations.
General information
Goals. The main objective is educational, theoretical and practical knowledge is provided to develop basic skills in guitar set-up, including all kind of guitars (classic, electric, flattop, archtop, bases, Latin American folk ones…). The secondary is to guide each person in the experience of integral set-up, a comprehensive tuning of musical instruments in an artisanal way, achieving the maximum possible performance of each guitar.
Recipients. All those people over 18 years old who wish to learn guitar making and develop it professionally, as well as those musicians who wish to keep their instrument in optimal conditions. It is not necessary to have previous experience in the field or to have knowledge of music.
Course modality. Intensive and group course of 8 hours in one day. Each student brings one or more instruments and practices with it, under the supervision of the teacher. The instrument does not run any type of risk in this and once the course is finished it is perfectly calibrated. If the student do not have a guitar, the school can provide it for practices.
We have a work space with all the appropriate comfort, lighting and safety conditions, in a workshop equipped with the necessary machines and tools to carry out the guitar buildings.
Materials. We recommend to bring an instrument in good condition, a tuner, cable, truss-rod adjustment wrench if you have one, and a new set of strings to calibrate during the course. In double locking system bridges, it is advisable to bring a new set of springs.
Schedule. Set-up courses are scheduled twice a year.
